Poet in copper:
Engravings by Evan Lindquist
September 5, 2014 – October 26, 2014

Poet in Copper: Engravings by Evan Lindquist, mounted as part of ACANSA Arts Festival, is a celebration of the first Artist Laureate for the State of Arkansas. Evan Lindquist became a force in Arkansas graphic art during his forty years teaching printmaking and drawing at Arkansas State University until his retirement in 2003. The artist’s lyrical engravings explore abstract imagery, music, portraiture, animals, landscape, satire, architectural fantasies, and the history of printmaking, among other subjects. This exhibition includes images from the 1960s through the 1990s. Visitors can also see some of the artist’s own engraving tools. Lindquist is a master engraver who learned the art of engraving and printing copper plates on paper from the great Mauricio Lasansky at the University of Iowa. The prints that make up Poet in Copper are drawn from the Arkansas Arts Center’s collection of over 225 works by Lindquist. Lindquist’s term as Artist Laureate of Arkansas extends from 2013 until 2017.
Poet in Copper: Engravings by Evan Lindquist is organized as part of the ACANSA Arts Festival, which features visual and performing arts at venues around Central Arkansas from September 24th to 28th, 2014. Tickets and information are available at the ACANSA web site: ACANSAartsFestival.org
